Creating a utilization-based threshold alert with Dynamic Capacity
Using Control Center, you can set threshold alerts for services and automatically trigger Lumen® Dynamic Capacity® when utilization reaches a specific percentage. You can specify 2x or 3x your subscribed bandwidth or specify that Control Center automatically selects the option based on utilization. You can also edit a utilization-based threshold alert to change the bandwidth triggered, when the threshold alert triggers Dynamic Capacity, or the email address notified when Dynamic Capacity is triggered; you can also delete a utilization-based threshold if you no longer need it.
Use Dynamic Capacity to add capacity on an eligible circuit:
real-time, scheduled, or utilization-based updates to bandwidth
no downtime while making bandwidth changes
predictable bandwidth, price, and invoice
visibility and control over your network
secure environments to validate requested changes
flexibility to make the changes from almost anywhere at any time
To create a utilization-based threshold alert with Dynamic Capacity:
Control Center opens the Network Visibility dashboard. On the map, Control Center shows locations with services needing your attention. Tiles show services with high utilization or critical issues, services that are down or have threshold warnings, as well as open tickets and scheduled maintenance for your services. Use the Map View, List View, Backbone Performance, and Summary Reports tabs above the tiles to toggle between views.
Click the Dynamic Capacity tile.
Control Center shows locations with threshold watches or warnings (if any).
Click the Services tab.
Click the link in the Service ID/SCID column.
Control Center lists existing, in-progress, and completed Dynamic Capacity events (if any).
Click Manage Dynamic Capacity.
Click the Create a utilization based Threshold Alert with Dynamic Capacity radio button.
Control Center shows any existing utilization-based threshold alerts for the service.
Do either of the following to create a threshold alert with Dynamic Capacity:
To create a utilization warning threshold alert, click ADD under the Create an Utilization Warning Threshold Alert heading.
To create a utilization watch threshold alert, click ADD under the Create an Utilization Watch Threshold Alert heading.
Fill in the details for the threshold alert:
From the Threshold list, select the utilization percentage you want to trigger Dynamic Capacity for.
Verify the email address you want confirmation emails sent to. (By default, Control Center sends emails to the email address in your user profile.)
Select the radio button for the hours you want the threshold alert to trigger Dynamic Capactiy for: peak hours, off-peak hours, or all hours, then select the time zone you want to use for the hours you selected. (For example, you may want to trigger Dynamic Capacity for a service in Denver, CO only when it exceeds a utilization threshold during peak hours in Mountain Time.)
Do one of the following:
To allow Lumen to select the appropriate bandwidth, change the slider to On.
To specify the bandwidth increase you want to enable when the threshold is met, use the slider to select the bandwidth (2x or 3x).
Review the details (including the estimated cost), then click the checkbox acknowledging you're requesting the change on behalf of your organization and accepting any charges associated with this request.
Click PROCEED WITH ACTIVATION.
Control Center sets the threshold alert with Dynamic Capacity for the service. If the alert is triggered, Control Center emails you a confirmation that Dynamic Capacity has been activated for the service. At the end of the event, Control Center emails you a confirmation that Dynamic Capacity has been deactivated for the service.
