Adding instance credentials to your user profile

Use the Lumen® Edge Service Manager to add instance credentials to your user profile before provisioning a bare metal server or adding a key pair. When you create a user during the provisioning process, the credentials entered are used to incorporate that user into the provisioned resource.

Note: The sudo (superuser do) credentials are set when you enter your Linux credentials the first time. Changing your Linux credentials applies only to new provisioned instances. Existing instances will use the original credentials entered.

Operating system username and password requirements

  • Passwords must be at least eight characters long.
  • Your password must include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, a number, and a special character, except where noted below.
  • No email addresses as usernames.
  • Whenever the BAD PASSWORD prompt appears for the following conditions, you will not be able to sign in.
     

Depending on the operating system vendor of the instance, your username and password must have the following requirements:

  • Password cannot contain any form of the username.
  • Password may contain numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, and symbols.
  • Password is case-sensitive and should contain a mix of cases.
  • Password should not be a word, abbreviation, or number associated with you or your organization or found in a dictionary (including foreign languages).

To add instance credentials to your user profile:

  1. To add username and password credentials:
     
    • For a Linux system, type your Username and Password in the Linux Settings section.
       
    • For a Windows system, type your Username and Password in the Windows Settings section.
  1. Click SAVE.

    The Edge Service Manager saves your instance credentials.
