Use the tools on the Edge Service Manager Library tab to standardize your application infrastructure by using open-source scripting, templating, and automation for your cloud instances. Library tab functionality is only available for cloud instances.
The Edge Service Manager offers automation capabilities for tasks, jobs, and workflows using open-source scripting and templating for your third-party cloud services. You can create and execute individual tasks or combine them in workflows you can execute manually or automatically. You can pair write attribute tasks with shell script tasks to use the stored values of write attribute tasks in instance phases. Instances have separate phases that start with configuration and end with teardown. Also, the Edge Service Manager provides scheduling capabilities to automate when instances are powered on and off.
The Edge Service Manager offers blueprint layout functionality to configure instance provisioning. Apply layouts when provisioning an instance to model and configure your cloud resources.
The Edge Service Manager offers integration capabilities (such as adding a Chef account and Git account) in both the Library and Administration tabs. The Library tab focuses on integrations related specifically to automation technologies. The Administration tab has the automation integrations as well as Git integration. Integrating a Git account provides access to stored scripts for modifying or creating instances.
Use the Edge Service Manager to create jobs used to execute tasks and workflows. When a job is created to run a task or workflow, it can be executed manually (immediately), at a specified date and time, or on a custom execute schedule that you create.
The Edge Service Manager enables you to create specification (spec) templates to leverage several major infrastructure-as-code solutions (such as JSON- or YAML-based configuration files). Spec templates make it easier to manage or create multiple resource types. Spec templates work in conjunction with blueprint layouts to make specified instances available with pre-configured attributes. Use the Edge Service Manager to create file templates that generate configuration files during a specified phase of an instance.
