Editing a spec template

Use the Edge Service Manager to edit a specification (spec) template created to configure the functionality of a provisioned instance. Spec templates pair with blueprint layout technology to make specified instances available for provisioning with pre-configured attributes. If needed, you can clone or delete a spec template.

To store files in a repository for your tasks, integrate a Git account into the Edge Service Manager.

Note: Library tab functionality is only available for AWS (Amazon Web Services) and Azure cloud providers.

To edit a spec template:

  1. Click Library, then Templates, then click Spec Templates.

    The Edge Service Manager shows the spec templates created for your organization.

  1. Click the icon.

    The Edge Service Manager shows the Edit Spec Template window.

  1. In the Edit Spec Template window, edit the following fields:
Field Description
NAME Type a unique name for the spec template.
CATEGORY Type a category name for the spec template. 
TYPE

Select one of the following types:

  • Terraform—Provision a Terraform instance. This option enables the VERSION field.
  • CloudFormation Template—Provision an AWS CloudFormation instance. This option enables the CAPABILITY_IAM, CAPABILITY_NAMED_IAM, and CAPABILITY_AUTO_EXPAND fields.
  • ARM Template—Provision an Azure Resource Manager (ARM) instance.
  • AKS ARM Template—Provision an Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) ARM instance.
SOURCE
Select one of the following options:
  • Local—Directly write and apply the code for the template manually.
  • Repository—Access the repository where the template code is stored. This requires a Git account to be integrated with the Edge Service Manager.
  • URL—Access the URL path where the template code is stored.


Additional fields appear based on your selection.
CONTENT Type the code for this template.
REPOSITORY Select the repository containing the template code.
WORKING PATH Type the repository file path where the template code is stored.
BRANCH/TAG Type the branch or tag of the repository to access the stored template code.

A repository branch is an area of the repository where code can be worked on but the changes are isolated from the original source. A repository tag is a verion reference point of the repository at a given time.
URL Type the URL where the template code is located.
VERSION Type a Terraform version number to use as a preselection for the version used when provisioning your instance. To use the latest version of Terraform, leave this field blank. This field is only available if you selected Terraform for TYPE.
CAPABILITY_IAM Select this option to enable IAM (Identity and Access Management) resources in the instance. This option is only available if you selected CloudFormation Template for TYPE. 
CAPABILITY_NAMED_IAM Select this option to enable IAM resources with custom names in the instance. This option is only available if you selected CloudFormation Template for TYPE. 
CAPABILITY_AUTO_EXPAND Select this option to enable template macros in the instance. This option is only available if you selected CloudFormation Template for TYPE. 
  1. Click SAVE CHANGES.

    The Edge Service Manager edits the spec template.
