Creating an Azure cloud

Use the Edge Services portal to create an Azure cloud. When you create an Azure cloud, it creates a link to your existing Azure subscription, enabling you to provision an Azure instance. After you create the cloud, you can view details and perform actions such as editing or deleting.

To create an Azure cloud:

  1. Click Infrastructure, then click Clouds.

    The Edge Services portal shows the clouds created for your organization.

  1. Click + ADD.

  1. Select Azure (PUBLIC), then click NEXT. 

    The Edge Services portal shows the CONFIGURE tab.

  1. In the Configure section, complete the following fields: 
Field Description
NAME Type a unique name for the Azure cloud. 
CODE Type a unique identifier to be used by the API, automation, and policies.
LOCATION Type a location or description of a region for the cloud.

CLOUD TYPE

Select one of the following options:

  • Global—Create a standard Azure cloud.
  • US Gov—Create a United States government cloud.
  • German—Create a German cloud.
  • China—Create a Chinese cloud.

SUBSCRIPTION ID
Type the Azure subscription ID obtained from your Azure account. 

TENANT ID

 Type the directory ID obtained from your Azure account. 

CREDENTIALS
Select the Azure account credentials to connect to the Edge Services portal:
  • client id and secret—Use the CLIENT ID and CLIENT SECRET credentials.
  • Local Credentials—Use the SECRET STORE, CLIENT ID, and CLIENT SECRET credentials.
SECRET STORE Select Internal. This field is only available if you selected Local Credentials for Credentials.

CLIENT ID

 Type the application ID obtained from your Azure account. 

CLIENT SECRET

 Type the application secret obtained from your Azure account. 

REGION 

 Select the location or region for the cloud. This field populates based on previous field entries.

RESOURCE GROUP

 Select a resource group to focus resource creation, selection, and discovery on. To allow resources for all resource groups in the specified region, select All.

INVENTORY LEVEL

Select one of the following options:

  • Basic—Synch information every five minutes on all resources in the selected resource group including the name, IP addresses, platform type, power status, and overall resources sizing for storage, CPU and RAM, every five minutes. Inventoried virtual machines appear as unmanaged VMs.
  • Full (API Heavy)—In addition to the information synced from the Basic option, Edge Services will gather resource utilization metrics for memory, storage and CPU utilization per VM when available.

ACCOUNT TYPE
Select one of the following options:
  • Standard—Your Azure account subscription is pay-per-use.
  • EA—An Enterprise Agreement (EA) curtails your ability to change your license numbers over time.
  • CSP—A Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) subscription enables you to add and remove users and products instantly. You only pay for the licenses you use.

RPC MODE
Select one of the following remote procedure call (RPC) options:
  • SSH/WinRM—Use Secure Shell (SSH) to remotely connect to your Azure account. 
  • Azure Run Command—Use an Azure run command to remotely connect to your Azure account. 
  1. In the Advanced Options section, complete the following fields:

DOMAIN

 Select localdomain.

APPLIANCE URL

 Type the alternate appliance URL used for installing the agent and reporting. The alternative appliance URL is used when the default for instances provisioned for this Azure cloud cannot be reached.

TIME ZONE

 Select your time zone.

DATACENTER ID

 Type the datacenter ID. Use this field only if price scaling is set up in your Azure account.

NETWORK MODE

 Select Unmanaged. 

LOCAL FIREWALL

Select one of the following options:

  • Off—Do not use a local firewall.
  • On—Use a firewall configured by your Azure account managed host and VM firewall or IP table rules.

SECURITY SERVER

 Select Off.

TRUST PROVIDER

 Select Internal.

STORAGE MODE

 Select one of the following options:
  • Single Disk—Use a standard disk for storage.
  • LVM—Use a Logical Volume Manager (LVM) for storage.
  • Clustered—Use clustered storage.

BACKUP PROVIDER

 Select Internal Backups. 

REPLICATION PROVIDER

 Select the replication provider integration for recovery services.

GUIDANCE

 Select one of the following options:
  • Off—Disable guidance recommendations on cloud resources.
  • Manual—Enable guidance recommendations on resources.

COSTING

 Select one of the following options:
  • Off—Disable synchronizing cost data.
  • Costing—Synchonize cost data with Azure.
  • Costing and Reservations—Synchronize related pricing data if your organization utilizes reserved instances.
DNS INTEGRATION Select the Domain Name System (DNS) integration where records for instances provisioned in this cloud are added.

SERVICE REGISTRY

 Select Morpheus. 

AGENT INSTALL MODE

 Select Cloud Init / Unattended (when available).

API PROXY

 This field is unavailable.
DISK ENCRYPTION Select one of the following options:
  • Encrypt - Platform Managed—Automatically encrypt managed disks, snapshots, images, and data. 
  • Encrypt - Use Encryption Sets—Manage encryption with your own keys.
ENCRYPTION SET Select your preferred encryption set.
CSP TENANT ID Type the directory ID obtained from your Azure account. 
CSP CLIENT ID Type the application ID obtained from your Azure account. 
CSP CLIENT SECRET Type the client secret obtained from your Azure account. 
AZURE COSTING MODE Select one of the following options:
  • Standard—Disable synchronizing cost data.
  • CSP Customer—Synchronize cost data with Azure.
  • Azure Plan—Synchronize related pricing data if your organization utilizes reserved instances.
SKIP CLIENT VALIDATION Select this option to skip the client validation process.
  1. In the Provision Command section, complete the following fields:
Field Description
PROXY This field is unavailable.
BYPASS PROXY FOR APPLIANCE URL Select this option to bypass available proxy settings for communication between the Edge Services portal and the appliance URL.
NO PROXY Type a comma-separated list of IP addresses or name servers to exclude from proxy traversal. 
USER DATA (LINUX) Type or paste the user data script. 
  1. Click NEXT. 
     
    The Edge Services portal shows the Group tab.

  1. In the Group section, complete the following fields:
Field Description
USE EXISTING/CREATE NEW Select one of the following options:
  • USE EXISTING—Use an existing user group. 
  • CREATE NEW—Select this option to create a new user group.  
GROUP Select an existing user group to assign to the cloud. This field is only available if you selected the CREATE NEW option. 
NAME Type a name for the group. 
CODE Type a user-defined identifier for the group.  
LOCATION Type a user-defined value describing the group in relation to your organization.
ADVANCED OPTIONS Ignore this section. 
  1. Click NEXT. 
     
    The Edge Services portal shows the Review tab.

  1. Click COMPLETE.

    Edge Services portal creates the Azure cloud. You can now provision an Azure instance for the cloud.
