Creating a check

Use Edge Services portal to create or edit a check and organize it into a monitoring or app group. You can select one of several built-in check types based on the service or instance type you provision. You can also view a list of checks already created and view details for each check. You can mute and unmute a check to determine how it affects open incidents and delete a check you no longer need.

All check types within Edge Services portal have several core options. By default, a check is run every five minutes. This can be changed to run as frequently as once every minute.

A check can have three health states:

Failed
Warning (Recovering)
Healthy

A failed check test triggers a reattempt after 30 seconds to eliminate false positives. The check will be sent into a failed state and raise the appropriate severity incident created by the check group. When a check recovers, it automatically enters a Warning state and will remain there until ten successful check runs have completed.

To create a check:

Click Monitoring, then click Checks.

The Edge Services portal shows the checks created for your organization.

Click +ADD.

In the New Check window, complete the following fields in the Check Info tab:

Field Name	Description
NAME	Type a name for the check.
TYPE	Select a check type and complete the corresponding fields.
INTERVAL	Select the frequency a check is run.
MAX SEVERITY	Select the maximum severity level impact for a check fail.
AFFECTS AVAILABILITY	Select if this check impacts overall system availability calculations.

In the New Check window, complete the following fields in the SSH Tunneling tab:

Field Name	Description
SSH HOST	Type a name or IP address for the host you are connecting to.
SSH PORT	Type the port number of the Secure Shell Protocol (SSH) service.
USERNAME	Enter username if not using SSH key pairs.
PASSWORD	Enter password if not using SSH key pairs.
ENABLE SSH TUNNEL	Select to allow check to use SSH Tunnel.
