Provisioning a bare metal server network

Use the Edge Services portal to provision Lumen public IP network blocks that are required before you provision a bare metal server. Before a bare metal server can be provisioned, a network must be provisioned in that location. Once you configure a network, it can take the Edge Services portal up to five minutes to provision the network to completion. After provisioning completes, the network is available for use and you can select it when provisioning a bare metal server. You can also view network details or delete networks you no longer need.

You cannot edit network configurations. If you need to make changes to a network, you must delete the network and provision a replacement network. Delete all bare metal servers from a network before deleting the network.

To provision a bare metal server network:

  1. Click Provisioning, then click Catalog.

    The Edge Services portal shows the available items in the provisioning catalog.

  1. On the Reserve a Network tile, click ORDER.

    The Edge Services portal displays the network order screen.

  1. On the Reserve a Network screen, complete the following fields:
Field Description
Group Select Lumen Edge Computing Solutions.
Cloud Select Lumen Edge Computing Solutions.
Name Type a name for the network.
Location Select a physical location for the network. Bare metal servers must be in the same location as the assigned network.
Connection Type Select Internet.
Network Size Select a required network size in CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) length based on the IP address. Networks can be /29 - /24 where /29 has fewer networks and hosts than /24. A /29 sized network is available for no additional charge. The size of the network determines the number of IP addresses available for server use. Larger CIDR blocks affect the price of the network.
Egress Bandwidth Select a maximum upload speed for clients using the network. There is no fee associated with egress bandwidth.
  1. Click ORDER NOW.

    The Edge Services portal begins to provision the network. When the order for a network is complete and the network begins provisioning, the Network Provisioning Inititated message appears on the Catalog screen. When this message appears, you can check the progress of the network provisioning. After provisioning is complete, you can select the network when provisioning a bare metal server. To check the status of the network, click Provisioning, then click Instances.
