Provisioning an ARM template

Use the Edge Services portal to provision an Azure Resource Manager (ARM) template for your organization. ARM templates use declarative syntax to define infrastructure for resource deployment. Before you provision the ARM template, you must create a specification (spec) template and blueprint layout specifically for the ARM template. When you provision an ARM template, you can assign a provisioning workflow to assign automated tasks to phases of a template and assign a power schedule to set when an ARM template is active.

Note: ARM templates are available only for Azure clouds.

To provision an ARM template:

  1. Click Provisioning, then click Instances.

    The Edge Services portal shows the instances created for your organization.

  1. Click Add, then click Cloud Provider Instance.

  1. Select the instance operating system, then click Next.

  1. In the Group tab, complete the following fields:
Field Description
GROUP Select the group associated with the template.
CLOUD  Select the Azure cloud for the template.
NAME Type a unique name for the template.
ENVIRONMENT Select the environment for the template. The environment enables you to segment your templates by labels. 
LABELS Type one or more labels separated by commas for template task organization.
  1. Click NEXT.

  1. In the Configure tab, complete the following fields:

VERSION Select a blueprint layout version for the template.
LAYOUT Select a blueprint layout created for the template.
PLAN Select ARM.
  1. Complete the variable fields that appear based on your selections for VERSION and LAYOUT.
  1. In the User Config section, complete the following fields:

CREATE YOUR USER Select this option to create a new user after provisioning the template. 
USER GROUP Select the group to assign the new user to. 
  1. In the Advanced Options section, complete the following fields:

SCALE FACTOR Type the number of nodes to be created with the template.
HOSTNAME Type the hostname for the template.
DOMAIN Select the domain for the template.
TIME ZONE Select the time zone for the template.
PORTS Type the name and number and then select the protocol for ports to be used by the template. To add additional ports, click the icon. To remove ports, click the icon.
TAGS Enter a unique tag name and value to each template for tracking purposes. Tags are name value pairs. For example, type Location for the name and New Brunswick for the value. To add additional tags, click the icon. To remove tags, click the icon.
ENVIRONMENT PREFIX  Type the environment variable prefix. Leave this field blank to have one automatically generated based on the template type.

 Type the environment variable values used by applications on the template. Environment variables are a set of dynamically named values stored within the system used by applications. To add additional variables, click the icon. To remove variables, click the icon.
  1. Click NEXT.

  1. In the Automation tab, complete the following fields:

WORKFLOW Select the provisioning workflow for the template.
SCALE TYPE Select the scale type for the template. The scale type determines how nodes are added and removed on templates.
THRESHOLD Select the threshold configuration for the template. The threshold configuration determines the minimum and maximum amount of memory, disk space, and CPU as well as automatic upscaling and downscaling.
POWER SCHEDULE Select the power schedule for the template.
SHUTDOWN DAYS Select the number of days a template runs before it is shut down.  
EXPIRATION DAYS Select the number of days to extend the expiration date for the template.
  1. Click NEXT.
  1. Review your selections, then click Complete.

    The Edge Services portal provisions the ARM template.
