Starting, stopping, or restarting a server on an instance

Use the Edge Services portal to stop, start, or restart a bare metal server (referred to as an instance in the portal) or an AWS or Azure cloud instance. You can create a new instance, or view and edit details for an instance. You can lock the instance to prevent deletion, access the console for an instance, and view the instances created for a specific cloud.

Note: Stopping, starting, and restarting do not impact billing. To stop billing, delete the bare metal server or delete the instance.

To start, stop, or restart a server on an instance:

  1. Click Provisioning, then click Instances.

    The Edge Services portal shows the instances created for your organization.

  1. Click an instance to view more information. 
     
    The Edge Services portal shows details for the instance you selected. Details vary based on the type of instance and your role.

  1. Do one of the following:

    • To stop the server, click Actions, then click Stop Server.

      The Edge Service portal stops the server. If you stopped a bare metal server, the server is stopped. If you stopped an instance, the server is unavailable for associated applications and instances.

    • To start the server, click Actions, then click Start Server.

      The Edge Service portal starts the server. If you started a bare metal server, the server is started. If you started an instance, all stopped applications and instances are started. 

    • To restart the server, click Actions, then click Restart Server.

      The Edge Service portal restarts the server. If you restarted a bare metal server, the running server is restarted. If you restarted an instance, all running applications and instances are restarted.
