Creating a Network Storage volume

You can create volumes on your Lumen® Network Storage nodes to store your data. Lumen offers Network File System volume (NFS) and Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) storage. You can also select an option to replicate your storage volumes to another location.

To create a Network Storage volume:

  1. Select the Network Storage node you want to work with by doing one of the following:

    • Click the link in the Node Name column.

    • Click  Details on the row for the node.

The Network Storage portal shows details for the node.

  1. Type a name for the volume in the Alias field.

  2. Type the size of the volume or use the slider to select the size you want in the Volume Size (GB) field.

  3. Do one of the following in the Protocols field:

    • Select the NFS radio button.

      • The default selections will allow all client machines to have Read/Write access to the volume. Select the Customize Volume Access checkbox to customize access.

      • Type the IP addresses or IPs or network CIDRs of the client machines separated by commas in the Read & Write Hosts field. 

      • Type the IP addresses or IPs or network CIDRs of the client machines separated by commas in the Read Only Hosts field.

      • To create the volume using iSCSI protocol (block storage), do the following:
         
        1. Select the ISCSI radio button.

        2. In the Mapped Client IQN field, type the client machine's IQN using the format iqn.yyyy-mm.naming-authority:unique name.

        3. Select the operating system from the list.

  4. Adaptive Block/file is automatically selected in the Service Tiers field.

  5. Choose the preferred cold tiering policy. Cold tiering keeps active data in Network Storage while automatically moving inactive data to a less expensive solution.

    • Auto: The auto tiering policy moves cold user data blocks in both the volume's Snapshot copies and the active file system to the cold tier. The default tiering minimum cooling period is 31 days.

    • None: The none tiering policy does not move any blocks to the cold tier.

    • Snapshot only: The snapshot only tiering policy moves only data blocks of the volume's snapshots to the Network Storage cold tier. The tiering cooling days is set to 2 days.

    • Custom policy: The custom tiering policy is the same as the Auto policy, but has a customizable cooling period between 2 and 63 days. 
        
  6. Select a radio button for the snapshot policy you want to use.

  7. Select Yes and type a name for the replica if you choose to replicate the volume to another node, and select the node to which you want to add the replica.
