How a leading medical society reduced network downtime with Microsoft Azure

The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS), based in Plano, TX, plays a vital role in educating and promoting the field of diagnostic medical sonography. But its on-premises web servers held it back with recurring authentication issues, slow loading times and frequent downtime. Updating their website was a struggle, and slow SQL server queries hampered efficiency. The organization also experienced occasional data loss.

Facing frustration, seeking solutions

When their internet provider contract ended in 2023, the SDMS saw an opportunity to upgrade its connectivity—envisioning a modern, reliable solution that empowered their mission. Enter Lumen, whose sales team listened intently to their challenges and proposed a two-pronged approach.

First, Lumen upgraded the SDMS’ internet service to a blazing-fast 400 Mbps Dedicated Internet Access connection through the Level 3 network. This provided the organization with the stability and speed they required.

Next, Lumen Cloud Migration services seamlessly moved the SDMS’ existing infrastructure into a Microsoft Azure Tenant target environment. Gone were the authentication hassles and slow response times. Now, accessing information is a breeze, employees can log in easily and securely, and updating the website is faster and more efficient. And the organization also enjoys 99% uptime in the Azure environment, a dramatic improvement from before the upgrades.
