ProStratus partners with Lumen for a unique data migration
As a managed service provider (MSP) in Springfield, Ohio, ProStratus primarily serves small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Many of these businesses operate with lean budgets, so it can be difficult to modernize their networks at the price point they need.
“One of the best things we can do as a small business offering services to a small business is to provide functionality, efficiency and price,” said Craig Terrell, ProStratus CIO and CTO. “This allows us to provide enterprise-level solutions to small businesses that normally can’t afford them.”
These solutions often include cloud-based networking capabilities. So, when one of their clients needed to migrate data from one location to another with minimal downtime, ProStratus turned to a partner who could deliver.

For more than a decade, ProStratus has relied on Lumen to help solve complex client challenges. Because this particular client serves customers 24/7 in different time zones, they couldn’t tolerate any downtime during the data migration process.
Size was also a consideration. ProStratus needed to move 182 servers from the client’s on-prem hardware to a service model in a data center.
“There were only solutions that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars,” Craig said. That wasn’t feasible. Instead, they asked Lumen if there was a way to extend the networks without reconfiguration.
The answer was Lumen® Wavelength Solutions, and the team could implement it immediately.
Accessible solutions save clients money
Craig and his team used Lumen Wavelengths to stand up a fiber connection in less than 30 days, easily meeting their client’s preferred time frame.
With less than two milliseconds of jitter registered on the connection, Wavelengths provided peace of mind to ProStratus and their users. It also achieved less than five minutes of downtime during server migration—something almost unheard of.
Craig and his team were immensely pleased by the outcome. “It allowed the customer to, with only a circuit connection, save hundreds of thousands of dollars on tools that would migrate from one platform to another on a server migration,” he said.
In this case, as in many others, Lumen helps ProStratus offer clients interconnectivity and management between multiple locations. Because of these networking solutions, growing brands can have the same reliable, secure network access as their larger counterparts.
