Adding a connection between Google and Oracle

You can add a Lumen® Ethernet On‑Demand connection between Google and Oracle (FastConnect) using Lumen Connect℠. To add the connection, you'll need a pairing key from Google (which you receive when you create a Partner Interconnect connection) and an Oracle Cloud Identifier (OCID) from Oracle. There are five steps to successfully add and use a connection between Google and Oracle: 

1. Create the Google pairing key
2. Prepare the Oracle connection
3. Add the connection in Lumen Connect
4 Complete the Oracle connection
5. Confirm the Google connection

Note: You can only use a pairing key that hasn't been used before. Once you use a pairing key, you'll have to request a new one from Google. 

You can only use OCIDs set up for Ethernet to create a connection. Once you add the OCID to the connection, Lumen Connect automatically selects the on ramp based on the region you selected when you created the OCID. 

Step 1: Create the Google pairing key

To create the Google pairing key:

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Platform page and sign in. 
  1. Create a VLAN attachment.
  1. Copy the Pairing key.

Step 2: Prepare the Oracle connection

To prepare the connection in Oracle: 

  1. Go to the Oracle Cloud page and sign in.
  1. Create a dynamic routing gateway (DRG). 
  1. Create a FastConnect connection using Lumen: Cloud Connect Ethernet as the provider. 
  1. Copy the OCID for the connection. You'll paste this when creating the Ethernet connection in Lumen Connect. 

Step 3: Add the connection in Lumen Connect

To add the Ethernet On‑Demand connection:

  1. Using the left menu, click Services, then click Add Services.

  1. Click + Add for Ethernet On-Demand.
  1. From the Customer Account and Billing Account lists, select the customer number and billing account number you want to add Ethernet On-Demand to.
  1. In the Service Nickname field, type a name for the connection you're creating. (Be sure to use something memorable. This name will appear on your invoice.) 
  1. In the From Location field, select Cloud Provider. 
  1. Fill in the information for the connection:

    1. In the Cloud Provider field, select Google. 

    2. In the Google Pairing Key field, type or copy and paste your pairing key provided by Google. You can only use a pairing key once. Once you use the pairing key, you'll have to request a new one from Google.

      Once you fill in the pairing key, Lumen Connect retrieves connection information from Google and adds a field so you can select the Google origination location. 

    3. In the Select On‑Ramp field, select the Google location where you want to originate the connection. 
  1. In the To Location field, select Cloud Provider. 
  1. Fill in the information for the connection:

    1. In the Cloud Provider field, select Oracle. 

    2. In the Oracle Cloud Identifier (OCID) field, type or copy and paste your OCID provided by Oracle.

      Once you fill in the OCID, Lumen Connect retrieves connection information from Oracle and adds the Oracle termination location. 
  1. Click Continue. 
  1. In the Class of Service field, select whether you want Basic, Enhanced, or Dedicated. (Higher classes of service offer higher availability SLAs and allow you to increase traffic prioritization for your EVC.) 

    • Basic (best effort): The service may be oversubscribed on the Lumen network. 

    • Enhanced (mid class): Enhanced EVCs (ethernet virtual circuits) can still be oversubscribed like Basic class of service EVCs; however, traffic is marked with an internal class of service marking which will prioritize your traffic over best-effort traffic during times of congestion. For EVCs with this class of service, bandwidth is not reserved on the Lumen network and traffic will not take priority over real-time traffic in the network.

    • Dedicated (real time): The quality of service offering with the highest priority on the Lumen network. In addition, Lumen reserves the bandwidth for this EVC across the network on each ring that the EVC touches. Once it is dedicated to you, that bandwidth (and the corresponding CE-VLANs) sits in reserve regardless of how much bandwidth you use.
  1. Use the Billing Method buttons to select whether you want monthly or hourly billing for the connection.

    Lumen Connect shows pricing for the billing method you selected.  
  1. In the Select Bandwidth field, select the bandwidth for the connection. Bandwidth options vary based on selected locations and cloud service providers. The maximum bandwidth available is the highest matching bandwidth at both locations. 
  1. Click Continue.
  1. Review your connection information then click Submit Order. 

    Lumen Connect creates the connection request and places it in the Pending Activation status. From here, you can view the connection status. 

Step 4: Complete the Oracle connection

To complete the connection in Oracle: 

  1. Go to the Oracle Cloud page and sign in.
  1. Click the FastConnect connection you created above and accept the connection. 

Step 5: Confirm the Google connection

To confirm the connection in Google:

  1. Go to the Google Cloud Platform page and sign in. 
  1. Use the VLAN you copied from Lumen to locate and activate your connection.
