Adding Internet On‑Demand to an Equinix data center

Using NaaS Manager, you can add a Lumen® Internet On‑Demand connection to your Equinix Fabric port. The connection is available within minutes and billed hourly.


Once you add the connection in NaaS Manager, use the Equinix service token to set up the virtual cross‑connect (completing your connection) in the Equinix fabric portal.

Note: You’ll need a data center fabric port attached to your data center equipment before adding a connection.

If you no longer need the connection, you can disconnect it in NaaS Manager.


To add Internet On‑Demand and complete the virtual cross connect in the Equinix Fabric portal: 

1. Add the NaaS Manager connection
2. Create the virtual cross connect in the Equinix Fabric portal

Step 1: Add the NaaS Manager connection

To add an Internet On-Demand connection to an Equinix data center:

  1. Click Services.

    Control Center shows the Services console. Use the console to access an inventory of your services, check the status of orders, and manage your services.

  1. In the Service Managers box, click Network-as-a-Service (NaaS).

  1. Click Create Connection for Internet On‑Demand.

Note: If you can’t click on anything, you’ll need to contact your Control Center system administrator to get NaaS Manager permissions.

  1. Start typing the location in the search field, select it from the list, then click CONTINUE. 
  1. Select the connection bandwidth, then click CONTINUE.

  1. Select a routing option, then click CONTINUE.

    Static routing is the only option available now. We're working on adding Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing soon.

    • /28 has 14 usable IP addresses
    • /29 has 6 usable IP addresses
    • /30 has 2 usable IP addresses

  1. Select whether to add DDoS Essentials, then click CONTINUE.

  1. Type a service nickname used as a label on the invoice, then click CONTINUE.

  1. Select a customer and billing account, then click CONTINUE.

    Not sure which billing account number to select? Consult your accounting department for help selecting a billing account number.

  1. Review the order information, then click SUBMIT ORDER.

  1. Once the order is complete, your order information shows the Equinix service token and WAN IP addresses. 

    Use the Equinix service token to complete the virtual cross connect in the next section. 

    Use the IP address information to configure your router or equipment:

    • WAN IP Block: X.XX.XXX.152/30
    • Provider Edge (PE) Router Address (Gateway IP): X.XX.XXX.153
    • Customer Edge (CE) WAN Address: X.XX.XXX.154
    • LAN IP Block: X.XX.XXX.160/29
    • Customer Usable LAN IP Addresses: X.XX.XXX.161‑X.XX.XXX.166

Step 2: Create the virtual cross connect in the Equinix Fabric

To create the virtual cross connect:

  1. Sign in to the Equinix Fabric portal. (If you don't have access the portal, you can register for an account.)
  1. In the upper‑right corner of the Equinix Fabric portal homepage, click Create Connection.
  1. Select Enter Service Token and paste the Equinix service token from the order confirmation or the email Equinix sent to you, then select Redeem. 
  1. Select the Port. 
  1. Click Next, then enter a Connection name.
  1. Note the VLAN the Equinix Fabric portal shows for Z‑side VLAN below Connection Information and enter it in the VLAN field.
  1. Select a connection speed.

    Bandwidth options are limited by the destination vendor and may not exactly match the bandwidth you selected when you created the Internet On‑Demand connection in NaaS Manager. We recommend you select at least the same size virtual cross connect as your Internet On‑Demand to the Equinix Fabric to ensure your connection can be fully used. You can also select a higher bandwidth for the virtual cross connect to help ensure you get the full bandwidth you selected in NaaS Manager. 
  1. Click Next.

    The Equinix Fabric portal shows a summary of the connection.
  1. Submit the order.

    The Equinix Fabric portal shows the next steps to connect within your provider's console and additional information about your connection. Once you have completed the steps in the vendor's console, your service may be up. You can check your status by going to your connection inventory and checking the Provider status and Equinix Status (under overview). Some vendors must accept the connection before your service can be accepted. Those connections will show Pending status until the provider accepts. Your service should be up and functioning once the Equinix Staus shows Provisioned and the Provider Staus shows Accepted.
