Using Performance Assurance

Performance Assurance is optional enhanced reporting and end-to-end SLA guarantees provided using Smart Demarcation for Lumen^® Virtual Private LAN services. The Smart Demarcation is a network interface device (NID) provided by Lumen at your location for VPLS for circuits up to 1Gbps (where available). Performance Assurance gives you tools to monitor and report on end-to-end SLAs, and improves network planning and management for growth. (An incremental monthly charge applies for each site with Performance Assurance.)

For end-to-end Performance Assurance, the Lumen premises' Smart Demarcation devices pass frames among themselves that constantly measure frame delivery, frame delay, and delay variation. Performance statistics are collected using SNMP to the Lumen operational support systems database (OSSDB) servers for the premises devices over the Lumen secure management network. Measurements are taken every one second and polled every five minutes. The Performance Summary report averages network performance measures for all available classes of service. Delay and packet delivery metrics are measured round trip, and jitter metrics are measured from source to destination. Reports show data based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
