Adding a connection between AWS Hosted Connections and Google

You can add a Lumen® Ethernet On‑Demand connection between an AWS Hosted Connection and Google. To add the connection, you'll need your AWS account ID from Amazon and a pairing key from Google. Be sure to have that information handy to type in (or copy/paste).

To add a connection between AWS Hosted Connections and Google:

1. Prepare the AWS connection

2. Create the Google pairing key

3. Add the connection in NaaS Manager

4. Complete the AWS connection

5. Confirm the Google connection

Note: You can only use a pairing key that hasn't been used before. Once you use a pairing key, you'll have to request a new one from Google. With Amazon Web Services Hosted Connections, we recommend you create a redundant connection to qualify for better availability SLAs.

Step 1: Prepare the AWS connection

To prepare the connection in AWS:

Go to the AWS page and sign in.

Click Direct Connect.

Click Direct Connect gateways.

Click Create Direct Connect gateway in the upper right.

Type a Name.

Type the Amazon-side ASN.

Click Accept in the upper right, then Confirm.

Copy your AWS Account ID.

Step 2: Create the Google pairing key

To create the Google pairing key:

Go to the Google Cloud Platform page and sign in.

Click the Google Cloud menu in the top left, click Hybrid Connectivity, then Interconnect.

Click + CREATE VLAN ATTACHMENTS next to Interconnect.

Select Partner Interconnect Connection, then click CONTINUE.

Click I ALREADY HAVE A SERVICE PROVIDER.

Select Create a single VLAN (no redundancy), then click CONTINUE on the alert.

Select default in the Network field.

Select your Region.

NaaS Manager uses the region to list available on ramps when you create the Ethernet On-Demand connection.

Select a Cloud Router.

Enter a VLAN attachment name you will remember.

Select a Maximum transmission unit (MTU).

Click CREATE.

Copy the Pairing key.

Step 3: Add the connection in NaaS Manager

To add the Ethernet On‑Demand connection:

Click Services.

Control Center shows the Services console. Use the console to access an inventory of your services, check the status of orders, and manage your services.

In the Service Managers box, click Network-as-a-Service (NaaS).

The NaaS Manager Overview lists connection options.

Click Create Connection for Ethernet On-Demand.

From the Customer Account and Billing Account lists, select the customer number and billing account number you want to add Ethernet On-Demand to.

In the Connection Name field, type a name for the connection you're creating. (Be sure to use something memorable. This name will appear on your invoice.)

In the From Location field, select Cloud Provider.

Fill in the information for the connection:
1. In the Cloud Provider field, select AWS.
2. In the AWS Account ID field, type your Amazon account ID.
3. In the Select On‑Ramp field, select where you want the connection to originate.

In the To Location field, select Cloud Provider.

Fill in the information for the connection:
1. In the Cloud Provider field, select Google.
2. In the Google Pairing Key field, type or copy and paste your pairing key provided by Google. You can only use a pairing key once. Once you use the pairing key, you'll have to request a new one from Google.
  
  Once you fill in the pairing key, NaaS Manager retrieves connection information from Google and adds a field so you can select the Google termination location.
3. In the Select On‑Ramp field, select the Google location where you want to terminate the connection.

NaaS Ethernet On-Demand connection between AWS and Google

Click CONTINUE.

In the Class of Service field, select whether you want Basic, Enhanced, or Dedicated. (Higher classes of service offer higher availability SLAs and allow you to increase traffic prioritization for your EVC.)
- Basic (best effort): The service may be oversubscribed on the Lumen network.
- Enhanced (mid class): Enhanced EVCs (ethernet virtual circuits) can still be oversubscribed like Basic class of service EVCs; however, traffic is marked with an internal class of service marking which will prioritize your traffic over best-effort traffic during times of congestion. For EVCs with this class of service, bandwidth is not reserved on the Lumen network and traffic will not take priority over real-time traffic in the network.
- Dedicated (real time): The quality of service offering with the highest priority on the Lumen network. In addition, Lumen reserves the bandwidth for this EVC across the network on each ring that the EVC touches. Once it is dedicated to you, that bandwidth (and the corresponding CE-VLANs) sits in reserve regardless of how much bandwidth you use.

Use the Billing Method buttons to select whether you want monthly or hourly billing for the connection.

NaaS Manager shows pricing for the billing method you selected.

In the Select Bandwidth field, select the bandwidth for the connection. Bandwidth options vary based on location. (You can't change the bandwidth once you create the connection. If you need to choose a different bandwidth after creating a connection, disconnect the connection and create a new one.)

Click CONTINUE.

Review your connection information, then click SUBMIT ORDER.

NaaS Manager creates the request for the connection and places it in the Pending Activation status. From here, you can view the status of the connection.

Step 4: Complete the AWS connection

To complete the connection in AWS:

Go to the AWS page and sign in.

Click Direct Connect.

Click the ID that matches the connection you created in NaaS Manager. The State will show ordering.

Click Accept in the upper right, then Confirm.

Once the State changes to available, click Create Virtual Interface.

Fill in the Private virtual interface settings.
1. Type a Virtual interface name.
2. Select the Direct Connect gateway with the same ASN.
3. Leave the Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) that automatically populates.
4. Type 3549 for BGP ASN.
  
  You can expand Additional Settings and type the Lumen Router Peer IP, AWS/Cloud Router Peer IP, and BGP Auth Key from the Lumen On-Demand connection you created, or let AWS auto-detect the settings based on the connection, gateway, and ASN.
